The Waste Land Trilogy was a project that sought to re-interpret
TS Eliot's The Waste Land through contemporary eyes. It was, in
line with the poem, an amalgamation of different voices, each intimately echoing a movement within it.

Part II - Sweet Thames, run softly...

Focusing on the middle two sections of the poem, this second phase concentrated on Eliot's use of the river as a premis to bring up ideas as diverse as ecology, the flotsam and jetsam of contemporary life, death, river based sports, spiritual renewal, modes of transport, the unnatural, listlessness, and the illicit affairs of the bored bourgeoisie. Based in two pubs along the river,
one east (The Dukes Head, Putney), one west, (The Mayflower, Rotherhithe) the two nights of film, video, performance and
poetry hoped to take the viewer on a journey that explored contemporary life in an equally listless, unstable, ineffectual
and yet numbingly entertaining city.
